Introduction to Psychology, History, and Role in Human Life

An introduction to psychology, its history, and its role in society is discussed in this article. The study of psychology can be characterized as the “science of mind” or the “study of the mind”.

To motivate my readers to pursue learning, I wrote “Introduction to Psychology” as a primer to help them better understand the human condition and mentality.

PSYCHOLOGY AS AN APPLIED SCIENCE:

Humans solve practical problems through the study of psychology.

Now I will give you 10 solid reasons why psychology is a science.

  • It analyzes and understands human behavior.
  • Programs determine how to interpret and use data.
  • Demand for human behavior is checked to see if it is valid.
  • The system understands how memory and learning work.
  • It understands ambiguous behavior.
  • The test measures one’s ability to cope with change.
  • Working within proper networks of organizations is something it is adept at, and it does so with a lot of energy.
  • Able to cope with many stressful situations.
  • Reduces knowledge and experience requirements for projects.
  • During tough times, it displays stamina.

Psychologists know that countless definitions vary depending on one’s viewpoint.

HISTORY OF PSYCHOLOGY:

1: WILHELM WUNDT:

During the 1879-80 academic year, a man named Wilhelm Wundt established a psychological institution at Leipzig University.

This is the first place where psychology has been taught.

It is said that Wilhelm Wundt is the “Father of Psychology”.

The following is what he said:

“Psychology is an inspection of person’s feelings, thoughts and expressions, and person’s willpower”.

2: RUDOLPH GOLAK:

Based on his perspective, he defined Psychology in 1590.

His statement was as follows:

“Psychology is derived from two words i-e Psyche means soul and logos mean knowledge”.

His conclusion was as follows:

“Psychology is the science of the soul.”

3: ARISTOTLE:

Based on Aristotle’s teachings:

“Psychology is all about the study of the soul. According to him, life is meaningless without the soul.”

4: WILLIAM JAMES:

His statement is as follows:

“Psychology is defined as the “description and explanation of states of consciousness”.

5: WATSON:

Later rejection of Wilhelm Wundt’s definition, however, was due to the same reason, namely, the behavior was not considered.

Watson’s perspective is as follows:

“Psychology is the study of human nature and behavior”.

6: ROBERT S WOOD WORTH & NL MUNN:

According to them,

“Psychology is the scientific investigation of behavior”.

“Psychology is the science of mental activities of an organism”.

“Psychology can be defined as the study of behavior and mental processes”.

ROLE OF PSYCHOLOGY IN HUMAN LIFE:

The field of psychology is an applied one, so it can be applied to many areas of human life.

The study of psychology helps us gain a better understanding of how our bodies and minds work. Consequently, you become more understanding of others.

In short, psychology is crucial for human survival.
